A sneak peak at fall hardwood market introductions reveals a broad mix of exotic species, chic coloration schemes and new combinations of engineered constructions in wider, thicker widths for greater stability and durability.
BR-111 is expanding its Triângulo Engineered line with a premium-quality, 5-inch board width in five exotic species including amendoim, Brazilian cherry, Santos mahogany, tiete chestnut and tigerwood. Constructed with a hardwood core that features a thick-sawn wearlayer, the flooring can be installed on, above, or below grade using staple, floating or glue-down installation techniques.
Preverco will broaden both its Original series and Engenius series of engineered hardwoods with a two-color, wire-scraped finish for rustic appeal. The finish is available in six new shades that include a grey/silver color combination in both Preverco’s Serengeti and Casablanca stains.

Chameleon-like hues of brown, green and gray are found in the Madagascar, Kilimanjaro and Cape Verde selections. For a wilder look, the Zebra finish features a distinctive black-and-white scheme that is inspired by current furniture and design trends, said Jean-Sebastien Roy, vice president of marketing.
Armstrong is expanding its Global Exotics hardwood line with a 5/16-inch-thick solid wood construction of 3-inch width that is designed to offer smoother transitions to rooms with different types of floor coverings in remodeling projects. The floor is available in five species: cumaru, Brazilian cherry, lapacho, tigerwood and sucupira. Solid hardwoods for this introduction will be available in jatoba, kempas, lapacho, sakura, tauari, tigerwood, cabreuva and pangali.
New for fall under
the Bruce brand is Westchester, a 3/4-inch engineered plank which offers
the same thickness as a solid 3/4-inch hardwood product but is designed with increased
dimensional stability in mind to address temperature fluctuations in solid
floors. Westchester can be installed over
subfloors with wide joist spacing to cover spans with low risk of movement and can
be sanded and refinished like a solid wood floor, the company said. Westchester also installs on all levels of the home and over
most subfloors, including wood, concrete, or vinyl and can be glued, floated,
stapled or nailed. A range of color is available in oak, maple and hickory in 3
1/4-inch and 4 1/2-inch plank widths.
"Westchester consists of nothing exotic in the
way of color," said Sara Babinski, Armstrong’s principle designer. "The colors
were meant to be traditional, based on best
selling colors today, in each given species. The news is in the 3/4-inch
thickness of the engineered plank."
Shaw for fall is expanding its Epic engineered hardwood line to provide a
broader range of popular colorations and species with the introduction of Bellemeade,
a 3 1/4-inch construction in three new colorations of 3/8-inch-thick hickory
veneers in harvest, caramel and suede. For installations requiring a 3/4-inch-thick
product, Brentwood 3 1/4-inch hardwood is
available in the same three new colors. Bellemeade 5-inch and Brentwood
5-inch are also available in hickory natural for wider plank preferences.
Pinnacle will build on its hand-distressed line-up with six new distressed SKUs
of Mountain Lodge; three colors each in hickory and maple in a 7/16-inch thick,
5-inch wide selection. Hand samples and update kits for Pinnacle’s Innovation
display will also be available in early October with product deliver scheduled
for the same time frame, said Brenda Cashion, vice president of marketing.
